England's FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final against Norway could get underway later than its scheduled kickoff time due to adverse weather conditions in Miami. After already experiencing a lengthy delay in their Round of 16 victory over Mexico, the Three Lions may once again have to wait before taking the field if thunderstorms impact the area surrounding the stadium.

Why could England vs Norway's kickoff be delayed?
The quarter-final is scheduled to take place in Miami, but forecasts have indicated the possibility of thunderstorms in the region before kickoff.
Under FIFA's weather safety regulations, matches cannot continue or begin if lightning is detected within an eight-mile radius of the stadium. If such conditions arise, officials are required to suspend or delay play until it is safe for players, match officials and spectators.
The protocol also states that once the final lightning strike is recorded within the designated safety zone, play cannot resume for at least 30 minutes. Players must then be given an additional 15-minute warm-up period before the match can officially start. As a result, any lightning activity close to the venue could significantly push back the scheduled kickoff time.
England already dealt with weather disruption earlier in the tournament
This is not the first time England's World Cup schedule has been affected by the weather. Their Round of 16 clash against Mexico at the Azteca Stadium was delayed by approximately an hour due to adverse conditions before eventually getting underway.
Ahead of that fixture, there had even been discussions about moving the kickoff to an earlier time to avoid the forecasted storms. However, the proposal was not implemented, and the match ultimately started later than planned.
Should another weather delay occur against Norway, England would once again have to adapt to disrupted preparations in one of the tournament's biggest matches.
With a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-finals at stake, both teams will hope conditions improve in time for kickoff, allowing the blockbuster quarter-final to proceed without further interruption.
