Defending champions Argentina will face off against a resurgent Spain in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, promising a mouthwatering clash of footballing styles and generations.

Argentina booked their place with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over England in the semifinals on Thursday. After falling behind to Anthony Gordon’s strike, Enzo Fernández equalized late, before Lautaro Martínez sealed the win deep in stoppage time with a header from Lionel Messi's assist.

The win showcased the Albiceleste’s never-say-die spirit as they aim to become just the third team in history to retain the World Cup title. The other two are Brazil and Italy.

Spain vs Argentina set for epic 2026 World Cup final showdown

Spain, meanwhile, cruised past France 2-0 in their semifinal, displaying the slick, possession-based football that has defined their campaign. La Roja, winners in 2010, are looking to claim a second star and end Argentina’s reign.

The matchup pits Argentina’s experience and star power, headlined by the ageless Messi in what could be his final World Cup, against Spain’s youthful dynamism and tactical discipline, featuring talents like Lamine Yamal.
