Leeds United are engaged in talks with Barcelona over the signing of Roony Bardghji as they look to boost their attacking department.
Bardghji, who joined Barcelona in the summer, has found it difficult to have proper playing minutes at the Spanish club. The 20-year-old has played just 10 games for Barca this season and has started only three matches in LaLiga.
Newly promoted team Leeds surprised everyone with their impressive results in quick succession against two of the Premier League's big six. They defeated Chelsea 3-1 last Wednesday before securing a 3-3 draw at home against Liverpool over the weekend. Despite the remarkable results from their last two outings, the Peacocks are close to the relegation zone, as they currently sit at 16th place in the table.
As per MOT Leeds News, Bardghji has become a key interest to Leeds United, and the West Yorkshire-based team have held talks with Barcelona over his loan signing.
Bardghji great outing against Real Betis
Bardghji was given a chance to start against Real Betis, and the Swede grabbed the opportunity, scoring a goal and one assist as Barcelona ran out 5-3 winners. Adding to the intrigue, reports from Spain claim that La Blaugrana are ready to let him leave on loan.
Barcelona star Roony Bardghji looking for more playing time
Rooney Bardghji is looking for playing minutes after being picked up in the starting lineup for Barcelona's LaLiga game against Real Betis. The winger played for 68 minutes, and his goal was his first for the club.
Interacting with the media following the game, Bardghji expressed excitement about opening his Barcelona account and made it crystal clear that he looks for more game time with Hansi Flick's team. He said:
“It’s an incredible feeling to score my first goal. I’m very happy, We’ve been training really well and we’re on the right track; we must continue on this path. I was coming off a period where I hadn’t played much and I’m grateful for these minutes, I’m very happy with the victory. I hope to have more minutes and be able to help the team. I had to be in the right place, I saw that Pedri had the ball and I just had to shoot if he passed it to me.”
The Swede also earned appreciation from Flick following the game, with the German tactician informing reporters:
“Roony Bardghji is an option. Just like Lamine in the middle. I asked him if he would like to play as a 10 and he said yes. Roony has had a great game. Now we have another option.”
Bardghji's current contract with Barcelona will run out in 2029.
