Mohun Bagan dominates first half

Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) had a significant advantage in the first half, scoring the first goal of the match for the first time since the group stage. This put NEUFC in a challenging position, forcing them to chase the game.

MBSG had another opportunity to extend their lead in the 18th minute. Greg Stewart, on the left flank, easily beat his defender and entered the penalty box. However, his attempt to chip the goalkeeper over the bar was unsuccessful.

NEUFC made a tactical change in the 31st minute, bringing on Nestor Albaich to replace Mohammed Bemammer. Despite their efforts, NEUFC faced strong resistance from Alberto Rodriguez, who was forced to leave the field due to injury in the 38th minute, replaced by Asish Rai.

Just before halftime, MBSG managed to score again, further solidifying their dominance in the first half.

NorthEast United FC's comeback

Anirudh Thapa played a key role in NEUFC's comeback, sending in a precise cross for Sahal Abdul Samad, who headed the ball into the net. Despite Mohun Bagan's apparent confidence, Jose Molina decided to substitute Sahal for Dimitri Petratos.

NEUFC's Juan Pedro Benali responded by bringing on his star forward, Guillermo Fernandez. The impact was immediate, as NEUFC pulled one goal back in the 55th minute. Jithin MS drew defenders towards him and slipped the ball to Alaaeddine Ajaraie, who deceived Vishal Kaith and curled the ball into the far post. NEUFC's comeback continued just two minutes later, as Guillermo Fernandez scored a stunning volley from a loose ball, leveling the score.

The momentum shifted in favor of NEUFC as Mohun Bagan Super Giant's defense appeared shaky. The inexperienced and makeshift players struggled to cover their weaknesses, allowing NEUFC to create more opportunities. The match went to penalties as both teams failed to capitalise on their chances during regulation time. Jason Cummings missed his initial penalty attempt but was given a second chance due to Gurpreet Singh stepping off the line prematurely. Cummings made no mistake on the second try, while Guillermo Fernandez scored on his first attempt.

Manvir Singh converted his penalty for Mohun Bagan, but Nestor Albaich responded with a goal for NEUFC. Liston Colaco's effort was saved by the goalkeeper, giving NEUFC a slight advantage. Dimitrios Petratos confidently converted his penalty, and Alaaeddine Ajaraie calmly slotted his shot.

Subhasish Bose's penalty was saved, securing NorthEast United FC's victory and the Durand Cup title. John Abraham, the team owner, was overjoyed with his team's success.
