David Lalhlansanga showcased his prowess by scoring and providing an assist, leading Mohammedan Sporting to a 2-1 triumph over Indian Navy in the Durand Cup match on Friday.

The action began with David registering a goal in the 50th minute and then setting up his fellow Mizoram player, Lalremsanga Fanai, to extend the lead in the 69th minute. However, the Indian Navy managed to reduce the deficit in the final moments of the game, with PM Britto netting a penalty in the 90+7th minute.

With this victory, the Kolkata-based team has accumulated three points from two games, positioning them behind the table leaders, Mumbai City FC, who have six points. The Indian Navy, on the other hand, are still chasing their first point.

The first half witnessed a series of missed opportunities. David nearly broke the deadlock in the 10th minute but missed narrowly. Soon after, a promising pass from Uzbek Mirjalol Kasimov to Bikash Singh was squandered due to a heavy touch. David's attempt in the 23rd minute landed atop the Navy's net, while the Navy's best chance came from Inayath, who tried to capitalize on the Mohammedan keeper Jongte's positioning but couldn't find the target.

Argentine forward Alexis Gomez for the Black and White was unlucky when his free-kick ricocheted off the crossbar.

The deadlock was finally broken in the second half, thanks to a brilliant play by David, who managed to outmaneuver defender Sagayaraj and sent the ball straight into the net, five minutes post half-time. David's assisting skills were on display 20 minutes later, connecting with Lalremsanga Fanai. After receiving a precise pass from Alexis just outside the Navy box, David swiftly set up Remsanga, who managed to evade defender Navjot and send the ball past the goalkeeper, Vishnu, striking the post before going in.
