England manager Thomas Tuchel has warned Phil Foden over his struggling form whuhc might affect his FIFA World Cup 2026 selection. With the footballing major just days away from now, the players have been going through performance tests during the international break, and it seems like Tuchel is not very impressed with the Manchester City star.
The head coach has cast doubt on his place in the squad, warning that the Sky Blue star is "not a guarantee" to make the trip to the summer finals despite shining in training. The World is set to be held across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Thomas Tuchel says Phil Foden's World Cup selection is ‘not a guarantee’
Tuchel made the blunt assessment after Foden struggled to make an impact in England's recent friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, where he was substituted before the hour mark in both matches. He said:
"Phil tried everything”.
Tuchel added:
"I would say he was excellent in camp but, yeah, he struggles to show it on the pitch."
The Egland head coach continued:
“It’s not a guarantee he will come to the World Cup”.
The former Chelsea boss stated that Foden arrived with "the brightest smile" and performed strongly in training sessions, but failed to replicate that "verve and excitement" during games, especially after limited recent minutes at club level.
Meanwhile, England has been placed in Group L alongside teams like Croatia, Ghana, and Panama. The Group Stage match is all set to begin on June 17 and will last until June 27.
