Pakistan is facing a wave of criticism, not just for its cricket team's recent defeat against India in the Cricket World Cup, but now for its handling of international football. A viral video circulating on social media reveals a rather unimpressive welcome for international players in Pakistan.
The incident revolved around the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which was held in Pakistan. When the Cambodian team arrived to participate in the qualifier match, they were met by a scene that has caused quite a stir.
The Pakistan Football Federation had arranged a mini truck, alongside a bus, to collect the Cambodian team at the airport. Unfortunately, this mini truck was used to transport the player's belongings, which were seemingly haphazardly piled together and transported to the hotel.
Kaleemullah Khan, a prominent figure in Pakistan football, exposed this situation to the public eye by sharing a photo on social media. In the picture, players can be seen loading their luggage into the truck themselves, highlighting the lack of proper arrangements.
Kaleemullah Khan expressed his profound disappointment, labelling this treatment as 'shameful'. He called upon the Pakistan Football Federation to feel ashamed for the manner in which they hosted international teams. Social media users also joined the chorus of criticism, emphasizing that such a small bus was sent for the players that some had to stand during the journey.
Khan stressed the importance of recognizing the significance of the FIFA World Cup qualifier, considering it a major sporting event for Pakistan. He questioned the decision to use a vehicle for transporting players' valuables, especially after a long and tiring flight, describing the situation as deeply embarrassing.
The match is slated to take place on October 17. In the first leg, the side drew 0-0, and they will now meet for the second leg at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad in search of their maiden victory in qualifying for the FIFA World Cup which will also see them advance to the second round of preliminaries for the 2026 edition of football’s showpiece tournament.
