The Premier League striker opened the scoring in the 29th minute, pouncing on a loose ball, before adding a second just before halftime to give Norway a 2-1 lead at the break. His calm, composed finish on the second goal prompted the memorable lotus pose celebration captured in viral images.

Norway extended their advantage in the second half with a header from Leo Ostigard and a late own goal by Iraq's Aymen Hussein, who had earlier pulled one back for the underdogs. The result marks a strong start for Norway in their first World Cup appearance since 1998.

Haaland, already a prolific scorer for club and country, silenced any doubts about his big-stage pedigree by netting twice in his tournament bow. Haaland's debut brace sets an early tone in the race for the Golden Boot and underscores why he remains one of world football's most feared forwards.
