Neymar Jr recently announced his retirement from international football following Brazil’s disappointing FIFA World Cup exit against Norway, in which Erling Haaland scored a brace. Following this, fans were curious if the player would also quit club football. Meanwhile, just ahead of the new season, the Brazilian superstar has provided a major hint on his plans.
Is Neymar Jr retiring from club football?
Neymar Jr has stated that he is not thinking about retirement plans right now. The Santos FC star wants to do well with his side; however, he has left his plans hanging and is uncertain. The former FC Barcelona player, who also played with the Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain, said:
“I’m not thinking about retirement.”
The football superstar said that he wants to continue for Santos FC until the end of his contract, which ends in December. He then added:
“Stay, leave, retire, keep playing… I don’t know! There’s still time until December. We’ll see”.
This has left the fans thinking whether his favourite player will continue to play or hang up his boots, like in his international career. The 34-year-old has been very unlucky with his health. He was sidelined with a Grade 2 calf injury most recently, which also affected his participation in the 2026 World Cup matches.
Neymar, upon his return, scored four goals and became one of the footballers to have scored in four different editions for Brazil. The player is currently focusing on his boyhood club ever since leaving Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal in January 2025. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the Brazilian superstar.
