La Liga president Javier Tebas has launched a scathing attack on FIFA, accusing the governing body of "destroying the football industry" and calling for president Gianni Infantino to step down.

In a strongly worded interview, Tebas declared:
"In my opinion, yes, I think his time is up."
Tebas criticised FIFA's election system as "rotten at its core" and argued that the organisation prioritises its own interests over the health of domestic leagues. Key grievances include plans for a 64-team World Cup, which Tebas says makes "no sense," and an overloaded international calendar that he believes harms club football.
Tebas also condemned specific decisions at the ongoing tournament, such as the postponement of a suspension for US striker Folarin Balogun, lengthy half-time breaks featuring major music performances, and hydration pauses he described as advertising opportunities rather than genuine welfare measures.
Tebas explained that national leagues, not just the World Cup, sustain the sport and provide employment for thousands. His comments come amid ongoing tensions between club competitions and FIFA's expanding international ambitions ahead of the 2026 tournament. FIFA has not yet responded to the latest criticism.
