Will Luka Modric stay at Real Madrid?

According to a report from Spanish outlet AS, Luka Modric has decided that he will not go anywhere and commit his future to the La Liga giants. The 39-year-old is expected to extend his contract and continue playing for them ahead of the FIFA World Cup in 2026.

As Luka Modric eyes to captain Croatia one last time in what would be his last appearance at the World Cups, he would prefer to be in shape while committing his future to the Spanish giants. This further means that the boyhood club Dinamo Zagreb would have to wait a little longer to get hold of Modric. By the way, Modric started his career at Zagreb where he made a total of 130 appearances.

However, Modric and Real Madrid have not come to terms on a new deal. Luka Modric signed a one-year renewal last summer and will need to sit down with the Spanish giants and work out a new contract in the coming future.

Carlo Ancelotti responds to Javier Tebas

Real Madrid's boss Carlo Ancelotti has replied to Javier Tebas amid the referring controversy that saw the Los Blancos lose out to Espanyol (1-0). After the match ended in the favor of Espanyol, Real Madrid expressed their frustration in an open letter that saw them ask questions regarding the standard of referees in the La Liga.

During the match, Carlos Romero made a bad tackle on Kylian Mbappe and could have been sent off for his actions but he narrowly escaped and on top of it, he scored the winning goal, rubbing salt into the wounds of the 15-time Champions League winners.

Later on, La Liga president Javier Tebas responded to the open letter by thrashing the club and even threatening to sue.

To which Carlo Ancelotti responded during a press conference before their clash against Atletico Madrid this weekend.

Tebas can rest assured because no one here has lost their mind. I think what has happened these days is simply asking for an explanation of what has happened.

Try to improve things and change a system with which, from what I hear, no one is happy. Because we are not happy in one sense and I think everyone else is not happy because they think it is a system that favors Real Madrid.

The Real Madrid will now next take on their arch rivals Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu this weekend on Saturday, February 8.
