Enzo Maresca has called out the managers who talk about different club players. The Manchester City manager has firmly declined to discuss Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
Man City boss Maresca calls out managers; shuts down Enzo Fernandez questions
Maresca insisted that the Argentina international remains a Chelsea player and hence, he doesnt want to talk about him. During a recent press conference, the Sky Blues boss said:
“Enzo Fernández is a Chelsea player. I’m not going to talk about players that are not with us.”
The ex-Chelsea head coach added:
“First of all, because I think it’s a lack of respect, and second because I don’t like when different managers talk about our players.”
The comments come as speculation continues over a potential move for the 25-year-old, whom Maresca coached during his time at Stamford Bridge. City have been linked with the midfielder this summer as they look to reshape their squad following recent departures.
Maresca’s diplomatic stance echoes the respect he has previously shown for players contracted to other clubs, even as reports suggest interest from the Etihad in a reunion with the World Cup winner.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have repeatedly stressed Fernandez’s status as a key member of their squad under new manager Xabi Alonso. The transfer window remains open until early September.
