Michael Carrick has emerged as the favourite for Manchester United’s interim manager job, and the Englishman already has Cristiano Ronaldo’s approval. The managerless club was knocked out of the FA Cup following their 1-2 loss against Brighton.

Recently, the club fired its head coach, Ruben Amorim, and Carrick has now become the favourite for his replacement. He has overtaken Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the race and has previously been an assistant coach at Old Trafford between 2018 and 2021.

Carrick, the former United midfielder, is in pole position to take charge of the Red Devils, and he already has club legend Cristiano Ronaldo’s approval. Back in 2021, the former Real Madrid superstar wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account:

“Michael Carrick was a class act as a player and he can become a great coach as well.”

The Portuguese legend further wrote:

“Nothing is impossible for this guy. Personally, I’m proud to have played with him by my side as well as with him as a manager on our bench.”

Carrick and Ronaldo played together in the late noughties, and it seems like the 44-year-old took the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s attention. The Englishman was replaced by Ralf Rangnick, whose spell as a caretaker of the club ended only after three games.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that United have already interviewed Carrick on Thursday and are expected to soon take over. Until then, Darren Fletcher has been holding down the fort temporarily.
