The Netherlands delivered a statement performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, cruising to a 5-1 victory over Sweden in Group F to seize top spot. Brian Brobbey opened the scoring early with a brace in the first half, coming in 5' and 17th minutes, capitalizing on clinical finishing to put the Oranje firmly in control. Cody Gakpo then took over after the break, netting two quick goals in the 47th and 54th minutes to effectively seal the result. 

Crysencio Summerville added a late strike in the 89th minute to round off the dominant win. Sweden's Anthony Elanga scored a consolation goal shortly after coming off the bench in the 59th minute, but it did little to stem the Dutch onslaught. The result leaves the Netherlands with maximum points from the match and looking like strong contenders, while Sweden must regroup quickly.

The Netherlands now sit atop Group F, sending a clear warning to their remaining opponents in the tournament. The winning side will next be in action against Tunisia on June 26. Gakpo was honored with the FIFA Man of the Match Award after delivering a brace against Sweden.
