Neymar Jr. has adopted a humble stance on his chances of making Brazil’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying coach Carlo Ancelotti will ultimately decide whether he deserves a place after the veteran forward worked hard to earn consideration.

In comments to reporters, the 34-year-old Santos player added that if he is not selected, he will support the national team as a fan. He said:
“Ancelotti will decide if I deserve to be there or not. I worked for this. If I'm not selected, I'll be one more cheering for Brasil at the World Cup.”
The statement comes as Ancelotti prepares to trim Brazil’s 55-man preliminary roster to the final 26 players ahead of the tournament co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Neymar, who has battled fitness issues since a major knee injury in 2023, has recently shown improved form upon returning to Santos.
Ancelotti has repeatedly stated that any decision on the Brazilian icon will hinge on physical condition and current performance rather than past achievements or sentiment. Neymar’s remarks reflect a mature acceptance amid intense public debate over his inclusion.
While many fans and former teammates continue to champion the all-time leading scorer for Brazil, others argue it is time for younger talents to lead the attack. The final squad announcement is expected imminently, with the eyes of the football world on whether one of the sport’s biggest stars will get a shot at lifting the trophy in what could be his last World Cup opportunity.
