Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove collapsed on the pitch during the Serie A clash against Inter Milan on December 1. Bove collapsed on the ground in the 16th minute and needed immediate medical attention. Players were left in a state of shock. Inter Milan players were seen consoling their opponents as the 22-year-old was stretchered off and rushed to the hospital.

As per a statement by the club, Bove is "currently under pharmacological sedation and hospitalised in intensive care".

"He arrived at the emergency room in stable hemodynamic conditions and the first cardiological and neurological tests performed have ruled out acute damage to the central nervous system and the cardio-respiratory system," the statement added.

As soon as Bove collapsed on the ground, players were quick to signal to the medical staff. Meanwhile, they formed a protective ring around the youngster. The referee then asked all the players to leave the field before the game was suspended.

Earlier this year in August, the AS Roma midfielder joined Fiorentina on a season-long loan. Coincidentally, his first goal for Fiorentina came against Inter Milan. While Bove is yet to get his maiden call-up to Italy's senior side, he has represented the country at the under-21 level.

"Forza Edoardo, we’re with you. You’re a strong boy with a great character. We’re reaching out to his family during these moments," Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso said after the unfortunate incident.

Inter Milan president Giuseppe Marotta backed the referee's decision to suspend play as Bove was rushed to the hospital.

"Inter and the entire football world express their closeness to Bove's family and Fiorentina," Marotta said.

"The decision to postpone the match was spontaneous on everyone's part, we are a community, all the players and even the referee were emotionally involved. We hope it is nothing serious."
