Real Madrid has finally announced the results of the 2026 presidential elections, and it's once again Florentino Pérez. He has secured re-election as president of Los Blancos, defeating challenger Enrique Riquelme in the club’s first contested presidential vote in nearly two decades.
Real Madrid announces presidential election results; Pérez wins again
Pérez, who has led the club since 2009, with a brief earlier stint, celebrated the result on Sunday, describing it as “a beautiful day for me and for all Madridistas,” according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The election followed two trophyless seasons for the senior team, prompting Pérez to call for a vote of confidence. Despite the challenges, he prevailed comfortably, with early counts and exit polls showing him securing around 65% of the vote against Riquelme’s roughly 35%.
The 37-year-old businessman and renewable energy entrepreneur Riquelme mounted an energetic campaign, promising high-profile signings such as Erling Haaland and Rodri, as well as appointing Jürgen Klopp as manager. However, the agents of the former Liverpool boss had denied the reports.
Pérez countered by explaining continuity, the ongoing redevelopment of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, and plans for ambitious transfers, including a potential club-record bid. His victory ensures stability at the helm of one of world football’s biggest clubs as he prepares for another term until 2030. His long tenure has been marked by significant success, including multiple Champions League titles and major commercial growth.
