Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has suggested that next year’s World Cup may mark the end of his international career. The Belgium star has stated that the ongoing World Cup co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico might be his last time he is playing in the international football major. However, the Los Blancos keeper wants to play for more years for the club side.

Speaking to journalist Alberto Pereiro, the 34-year-old said: 

“This might be my last World Cup.”

The comments signal the likely conclusion of Belgium’s golden generation, which also featured Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku. The team reached the 2018 World Cup semi-finals but fell short of winning a major trophy. Courtois remains one of the world’s top goalkeepers and is still performing at the highest level with Real Madrid. 

Belgian fans have already begun discussing potential successors, with Club Brugge’s Senne Lammens frequently mentioned as a future No.1.No final decision has been made, but Courtois’ words point to the end of an era for the Red Devils.

Meanwhile, Belgium and Iran played out a frustrating goalless draw in their World Cup 2026 Group G clash at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The team continued to press late on, but Iran held firm defensively and even threatened on set pieces and counters. The result leaves both teams on two points from two draws, keeping Group G wide open ahead of the final matchday.
