With José Mourinho almost becoming the new manager of Real Madrid, there is a new twist in managerial options. However, the candidate is nothing new.
Enrique Riquelme, a candidate challenging Florentino Pérez in Real Madrid’s upcoming presidential election, has named former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp as his top choice to lead the club.
Real Madrid wants Jurgen Klopp as manager and not Jose Mourinho?
In a public statement shared by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Riquelme declared that if elected, his sporting director Raúl would reach out to Klopp as early as Monday to discuss taking over at the Santiago Bernabéu. He said:
“The manager we want for our Real Madrid project is Jurgen Klopp”.
Enrique added:
“On Monday, if we win the elections, our director Raúl will get in touch with Klopp”.
The announcement is seen by many as campaign rhetoric, given Pérez’s strong position as the heavy favourite to retain the presidency. Klopp, who stepped away from management after a successful spell at Liverpool, has been enjoying a break from the game and has not been linked to any immediate coaching return.
Klopp's agent denies any chance to become next Real Madrid manager.
Despite the constant rumors and recent remarks by Enrique, Klopp's agents have again denied any chances of the former Liverpool boss going to Real Madrid.
