Watch: Roberto Firmino nets a stunning hat-trick on Saudi Pro League debut

In a dazzling start to the Saudi Pro League season, Roberto Firmino, formerly of Liverpool, marked his Al Ahli debut with an impressive hat-trick. The league, bolstered by nearly half a billion US dollars, has witnessed an influx of elite players from Europe's top-tier clubs, including Premier League veterans and Champions League victors, ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Making his move from Anfield on a lucrative free transfer, Brazilian forward Firmino showcased his prowess, steering Al Ahli to a 3-1 triumph over Al Hazem in Jeddah. The 31-year-old began his goal spree within the first nine minutes, synergizing effectively with fellow newcomers Riyad Mahrez and Allan Saint-Maximin. His third and final goal came midway into the second half.

Both ex-Manchester City star Mahrez and former Newcastle sensation Saint-Maximin contributed with assists. However, not all of Al Ahli's celebrated signings had a night to remember. Edouard Mendy, once Chelsea's safeguard between the posts, faced a momentary lapse when his misguided clearance was capitalized on by the opposition's Vina, resulting in a goal from a distance.

Despite the hiccup, Al Ahli, who ascended to the league last season, showcased their mettle. Their formidable roster, curated with the support of the Saudi Public Investment Fund, is indicative of the league's ambition.

Firmino's maiden goal was a testament to his aerial prowess, landing a powerful header in just the sixth minute. His second was a testament to team synergy, with a strategic play involving Saint-Maximin and Mahrez leading to an effortless finish. Firmino sealed his hat-trick in the 72nd minute, reacting promptly to a saved header.

The Saudi Pro League isn't just Firmino's playground; it's now home to his former Liverpool colleagues Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, and Sadio Mane. Football giants like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and N’Golo Kante have also joined the ranks, elevating the league's stature on the global stage.
