The global soccer community is buzzing with the recent revelation that Roberto Mancini, renowned for leading Italy to European Championship glory, has been appointed the head coach of the Saudi Arabian national team. This monumental announcement by the Saudi Arabian soccer federation (SAFF) came merely two weeks after Mancini's unexpected departure from Italy's helm.

Heralding a new chapter in Saudi Arabia's burgeoning soccer narrative, Mancini has been handed a robust four-year contract. Fans eagerly await his managerial debut in the forthcoming friendly matches against formidable opponents: Costa Rica on September 8 and South Korea on September 12, both set to take place in Newcastle.

Highlighting the significance of this appointment, SAFF released a poignant video clip of Mancini. The footage resonates with his enthusiasm and commitment as he remarks, "I made history in Europe, now it's time to make history with Saudi." Italian news outlets have added to the buzz, speculating Mancini's contract value to be a staggering 25 million euros (equivalent to $27 million) annually. Further details are anticipated during a media press conference scheduled for Monday.

"I am immensely honored to be offered the position as Saudi Arabia national team manager," Mancini said.

"I believe this is a great opportunity for me, to experience football in a new country, especially with the growing popularity of football in Asia.

"I firmly believe that the passionate footballing culture of Saudi Arabia and the intrinsic quality of Saudi players are crucial ingredients for success. The presence of top players in the Saudi Pro League indicates the potential for growth in the national football scene," he added.

Mancini's association with the Saudi team marks yet another high-profile inclusion in the kingdom's ambitious soccer overhaul. Saudi clubs, backed by the nation's oil wealth, have been making headlines for their high-ticket signings of elite soccer players. This aggressive push into the sporting limelight has, however, also raised eyebrows among human rights advocates, who accuse the nation of leveraging sports primarily for image-building.

The soccer sphere was taken aback when Mancini opted to part ways with the Italian national team, especially after the ecstasy of the 2021 European Championship victory. This shock was compounded by Italy's unexpected World Cup qualification debacle. His successor, Luciano Spalletti, fresh from a Serie A title win with Napoli, has taken over the reins.

Looking at Mancini's illustrious career, his multiple Serie A titles during 2005-2008 with Inter Milan, and the iconic Premier League win with Manchester City in 2012, stand out. With Saudi Arabia's fervent ambition and Mancini's golden touch, the soccer fraternity is keenly awaiting the next chapter in this compelling tale.
