FC Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Spain midfielder and 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri from Manchester City. This means the rivals have beaten Real Madrid to seal the deal. The World Cup winner had been linked with Los Blancos for a long time, but the 15-time UEFA Champions League winners slowed the process while continuing to sign several players.
Then came Hansi Flick’s side to submit an official bid for the former Sky Blues player before it was confirmed. The deal is valued at approximately €76.5 million (£65.3m), including an initial payment of around €60m plus performance-related add-ons. The 30-year-old is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Catalan club.
Rodri, who captained Spain to World Cup glory in 2026 and claimed the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player, had one year remaining on his contract at the Etihad Stadium. Man City accepted Barcelona’s latest bid after rejecting earlier offers.
During seven seasons with City, the former Atletico Madrid player made nearly 300 appearances and collected 12 major trophies, including four Premier League titles and the 2023 Champions League. He will now link up with several Spain teammates already at Barcelona, strengthening Hansi Flick’s midfield.
