Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo has hit back at French journalist Pascal Ferre who he claims has lied. Editor-in-chief of France Football, Ferre in the build-up to the Ballon d’Or ceremony claimed that Ronaldo's only ambition was to get past Lionel Messi for most Ballon d’Ors. However, the Portugal captain has denied such claims.
Ronaldo who wasn’t present for the ceremony in Paris posted an Instagram message where he has hit back at the French Football and Ferre, stating,” Today's outcome explains why Pascal Ferre's statements last week when he said that I confided in him that my only ambition was to finish my career with more Ballon d'Or than Lionel Messi.”
The Manchester United star further showcased his anger by writing, "Pascal Ferre lied, he used my name to promote himself and to promote the publication he works for. It is unacceptable that the person responsible for awarding such a prestigious prize could lie in this way, in absolute disrespect for someone who has always respected France Football and the Ballon d'Or.”
Ronaldo didn’t stop there, he also spoke about his absence, “And he lied again today, justifying my absence from the Gala with a supposed quarantine that has no reason to exist or be carried out."
Messi on Monday (November 30) won his seventh Ballon d’Or which has taken him two clear of the five-time Champions League (CL) winner. However, very little separates the two greats of the game as Ronaldo has more international trophies than Messi and has won the CL five times compared to Messi’s four. For now, though the dust has settled as Messi had the final laugh in the latest Ballon d’Or saga.
