Lionel Messi is going through tough times and is in his hometown following his father’s death. The Argentine has been granted leave from the club as the League Cup and the Major League Soccer gather pace. The forward was seen leaving for Rosario with his wife and kids as he was allowed to take as much time as he needs to recover from the loss.
When will Lionel Messi return to Inter Miami?
There is no specific date for when Lionel Messi can return to the United States. According to a report by Doble Amarilla, the former FC Barcelona superstar is away from the club on an indefinite leave. The report further stated that the death of Messi’s father has affected him deeply and “has decided not to return to the United States and will put his commitments with Inter Miami on hold until further notice.”
It is expected that the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner will miss the remainder of the League Cup. This also means that in his absence, Inter Miami might be eliminated from the tournament in the first round following their disappointing form.
Messi was left out of the game against Monterrey and is also expected to sit out Inter Miami’s final Leagues Cup game, which is set against Club Leon. In addition to this, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner might be missing MLS games vs Nashville SC, Philadelphia Union, Toronto FC and CF Montreal. It remains to be seen if he makes his return in September.
