England superfan sells house for seven-week FIFA World Cup trip
A 62-year-old England superfan, Andy Milne, has put his second home in Northwich, Cheshire, up for sale for £350,000 to fund a seven-week trip to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The sale of the property, which he and his family have owned for 27 years and have been renting out, comes as he described the Qatar trip as a personal gift to himself after years of saving. He told The Mirror:
"It is going on the market because I’m selling it to go to the World Cup.”
Milne added:
"I definitely want to see the whole tournament.”
The superfan also stated:
"I am going to the US on June 3 and will be there for seven weeks. So it will cost quite a lot of money."
Milne, a retired teacher and a former head of science at Grange School, Northwich, now living in Thailand, plans to attend every match of the tournament, starting with England's opening game against Croatia in Dallas on June 17.
Milne has already secured tickets for all of England's games up to the final and intends to make the most of the North American adventure, including a side trip to Memphis to visit Elvis Presley's Graceland, as per a report in the aforementioned source.
Milne has followed England to nine previous World Cups, eight with the men's team and one with the women's, dating back to his first trip to Spain in 1982 at age 19. He went viral during the 2022 tournament in Qatar, where he was frequently photographed holding a replica Jules Rimet trophy while wearing his Three Lions shirt.
