Commonwealth Games 2026: Bindyarani earns bronze, India's medal tally reaches six

India continued its dominant weightlifting campaign, with Gyaneshwari Devi also securing silver on Monday.

In a serious of historic moments, India's weightlifters continued their spirted performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026, extending the flawless medal streak in the sport. Bindyarani secured the bronze medal in the women's 58kg event. It marked her second Commonwealth Games podium finish after winning the silver at the Birmingham in 2022 edition. The outcome also took India's overall medal tally to six.

Bindyarani kicked off in confident manner in the 58kg event, opening with a successful 83kg lift in the snatch section. She followed it up with clean lifts of 85kg and 87kg in her next two attempts, finishing the snatch phase with a best attempt of 87kg. The strong performance kept her in the race for a podium finish.

How the clean and jerk went for Bindyarani?

However, the clean and jerk turned out to be a little bit challenging for Bindyarani. She was unable to record a 110kg lift on her first attempt, increasing the pressure heading into the rest of the competition. The Indian weightlifter reacted with calm by clearing 112kg in her second attempt to stay in the race for medal. Although she could not complete a 116kg in her last attempt, her combined total was enough to secure the bronze medal.

India's successful campaign at weightlifting 

Earlier today, Gyaneshwari Devi finished her campaign on a high lifting 111kg on her final clean and jerk attempt, settling for the silver medal with a personal best of 199 kg.
