Indian athletes won two medals in a space of 15 minutes at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022. Indian Judoka Sushila Devi bagged the silver medal whereas Vijay Kumar Yadav won the bronze medal on Day 4.
Sushila had to settle for silver medal after losing to South Africa's Geronay Whitebooi in the 48kg category final. Her silver medal is the first medal for India apart from weightlifting.
The Judoka from Imphal is also the first Indian to book a berth at the Olympics. She could not get a medal in the last year's Olympics but created history anyway. This is her second silver medal at the Commonwealth Games. The 27-year-old's first CWG medal came in the Glasgow edition.
Judoka Vijay won the bronze medal in the repechage round. In the 60 kg category, Vijay knocked out Cyprus' Petros Christodoulides. His bronze took India’s total tally of medals at the Games to eight.
