India's Amanpreet Singh grabs gold at ISSF Shooting World Championship; Women's Team wins bronze

In a commendable achievement at the ISSF Shooting World Championship, Indian shooter Amanpreet Singh grabbed gold in the men's 25m standard pistol event. This victory marked India's fifth gold medal in the championship, emphasising the nation's stellar performance this season. Not just this, the women's team also showcased their prowess by securing a bronze medal in the standard pistol team competition.

 

With Singh's recent triumph, India's medal count at the championship has elevated to an impressive total of nine: five gold and four bronze. This has propelled India back to the second position in the overall medal standings. However, the dominant Chinese team maintains its lead with a staggering 24 podium finishes, 13 of which are gold.

 

Delving deeper into Amanpreet's performance, he secured a score of 577 in the men’s standard pistol event. His remarkable performance placed him three points ahead of his nearest competitor, Korea's Lee Gunhyeok, who secured the silver medal with a score of 574. The bronze medal was awarded to Kevin Chapon from France. While Chapon matched Gunhyeok's score, he trailed behind due to fewer inner 10s compared to the Korean shooter.

 

In the team events, the men's squad consisting of Harsh Gupta, who shot a 573, Akshay Jain with a score of 545, and the gold medalist Amanpreet Singh, narrowly missed out on a podium finish. Their combined score of 1695 saw them finish in the fourth position, behind shooting powerhouses China, Germany, and Korea.

 

On the women's front, in the 25m standard pistol event, individual victories eluded the trio of Tiyana, Yashita Shokeen, and Kritika Sharma, who ranked 11th, 12th, and 14th respectively. However, their combined efforts culminated in a bronze medal for the team with an aggregate score of 1601. The dominant Chinese team continued their winning streak, capturing gold, while the host nation secured the silver.

This championship stands as a testament to India's growing presence and prowess in the global shooting arena.
