Indian archers shone at the Senior World Archery Championship where the Women’s Compound Team and the Compound Mixed Team settled for respective silver medals. Both the teams reached the finals and were up against Colombia, where the Indian teams fell short in the windy conditions of South Dakota as the opponents proved to be too strong for the Indian archers.
The Women’s Compound team comprising of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Muskan Kirar and Priya Gurjar ended up being the second-best after losing to Colombia’s team of Sara Lopez, Alejandra Usquiano and Nora Valdez by 224-229.
The Compound Mixed Team also had the same luck as the team of Jyothi and Abhishek Verma also settled for the silver medal after losing to Colombia’s Sara Lopez and Daniel Munoz by 150-154.
India had reached the finals of the World Championships six times, but had failed to win the gold every time. While they had to settle for the silver medals in the team events, India will have chances in the Women’s Compound and Men’s Compound Individual events on Saturday where Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Abhishek Verma will be playing their trade in their respective categories.
Abhishek had won the historic gold medal in the Men’s Compound event at the Archery World Cup in Paris earlier this year in June and Jyothi bagged bronze medal in the World Championships 2019.
