Indian athlete Ancy Sojan calls Bhubaneswar Gold ‘Average’; sees it only as Asian Games warm-up

Ancy Sojan secured first place in the women’s long jump at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver Meet in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, clearing 6.71 metres. The Indian long jumper, despite winning the gold medal as a result, has called it ‘average’. 

Sojan believes that the result is only a warm-up for the upcoming Asian Games as she is very confident about her performance at the event. However, the Indian athlete is satisfied with the result and is looking ahead being consistent.

Speaking after the event, the Kerala athlete described the result as modest. She said, as per a clip by My Khel:

“This is like an average performance for me as I am very consistent.”

Sojan added:

“I wasn’t expecting anything more as I saw this as a preparation for the Asian Games. But very happy with the result.”

Sojan, who earlier this year set a national record of 6.88m at the same venue, led an Indian podium sweep. Meanwhile, talking of the results, Shaili Singh took silver with 6.56m, while Mubssina Mohammed claimed bronze with 6.31m.

A silver medallist at the 2023 Asian Games and 2025 Asian Championships, Sojan has established herself as one of India’s leading field athletes. She continues to target further improvement ahead of the Asian Games.
