Securing a historic triumph, the Indian Women's Compound Archery Team claimed their maiden gold at the World Archery Championships in Berlin, Germany, on August 3. This victory marks a remarkable milestone, as it is the first-ever gold for India in any category at the prestigious archery championships.
Comprising of accomplished archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Parneet Kaur, and Aditi Gopichand Swami, the Indian squad demonstrated a phenomenal performance in the final round against the formidable Mexican team. The trio clinched victory with an impressive score of 235-229, reflecting their incredible skill and precision in the sport.
"We're very happy we've won the first title for India," Aditi told World Archery.
"We just focused on our shooting, and we were confident that we would win," she added.
Their journey to the pinnacle was no less impressive. After enjoying a bye in the initial round, the Indian women's compound team exhibited resilience and tenacity to overcome strong adversaries from Chinese Taipei and Turkey in the quarterfinals and pre-quarterfinals respectively. The semi-final showdown against the reigning champions, Colombia, was a thrilling affair, where the Indian squad came out on top with a 220-216 score, thus booking their berth in the finals.
This glorious victory contributes to India's commendable performance at the World Archery Championships, where the nation has accumulated an impressive tally of 11 medals, including six golds, one silver, and four bronzes.
Watch out for the individual compound event, where the victorious trio of Jyothi, Parneet, and Aditi will be back in action, eager to add more laurels to their already impressive feat.
