Born on January 26, 2021, Sarkar achieved this milestone after participating in the West Bengal State Under-9 Open and the West Bengal State Under-13 Open in October 2024. His impressive performance in these tournaments earned him a FIDE rating of 1555, as listed in the November 2024 FIDE rating list published on October 31.

Anish Sarkar has shattered records by becoming the world's youngest FIDE-rated chess player. At just 3 years, 8 months, and 19 days old, he surpassed his compatriot Tejas Tiwari, who previously held the title of the youngest FIDE-rated player at the age of five. To achieve a FIDE rating, a player must participate in at least five games against rated opponents within a 26-month period and score at least half a point. Anish Sarkar met this criterion after competing in the West Bengal State Under-9 Open and the West Bengal State Under-13 Open in October 2024.
Anish Sarkar is currently training at the Dhanuka Dhunseri Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy. Indian chess prodigy Arjun Erigaisi experienced a brief but significant moment of glory when he surpassed the 2800 rating mark, becoming only the second Indian after Viswanathan Anand to achieve this feat. However, this milestone was short-lived, as his rating dipped below 2800 by the end of October.
Currently, Erigaisi holds the fourth position in the world rankings with a rating of 2799, while D Gukesh occupies the fifth spot with a rating of 2783. It's worth noting that Dutch Grandmaster Anish Giri also achieved a live rating above 2800 in 2015 but fell short of maintaining it until the end of the month, preventing him from being officially recognised.
