India's double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu lost to Thai shuttler Ratchanok Intanon in the quarterfinals of the Uber Cup Final in Bangkok on May 12. The Indian women's badminton team including Aakarshi Kashyap and the pair of Shruti Mishra and Simran Sanghi failed to put up a fight as they crashed out of the tournament after a 0-3 defeat.
This was Sindhu's seventh defeat to Intanon. The World No.7 has beaten her on four occasions before. The start Indian shuttler won the first game by 21-18 but then lost the next two by 17-21 and 12-21.
On the other hand, Shruti and Simran lost to the pair of Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai by 16-21 13-21.
Aakarshi did not have a good outing as well. She was outclassed by Pornpawee Chochuwong by 16-21 11-21 in a match that ended in 42 minutes.
As India lost the first three matches, the remaining two were not played. In another doubles contest, Tanisha Crasto and Treesa Jolly were to go up against Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard whereas in the singles game, Ashmita Chaliha was to face Busanan Ongbamrungphan.
Sindhu has not had a good time on the court this week. In the final Group D clash, Sindhu lost to world no.4 An Seyoung by 15-21 14-21. India advanced into the quarterfinals despite losing to Korea 0-5 as they beat Canada and USA by 5-0 and 4-1 respectively.
