In a series of historic events, India's Tanvi Sharma won the Taipei Open by defeating Vietnam's Thuy Linh Nguyen on Sunday, August 2 to lift her maiden BWF World Tour Super 300 title. With this, Sharma became the second Indian shuttler to lift the Taipei Open. Earlier, it was Saina Nehwal who lifted the title in 2008.

Tanvi continued her amazing run in the international arena by capturing the biggest title of her young career. The 17-year-old shuttler, who is regarded as one of the best prospects of the country, has improved a lot in the last two years. Having narrowly missed out on the US Open Super 300 crown last year, she returned with strong determination and successfully turned the tables to lift the trophy this time.

Tanvi entered the competition with a series of impressive performances across both the junior and senior circuits. The Punjab shuttler, a former world junior No.1, had already etched her name into the history books by becoming the first Indian to win two medals at a single edition of the BWF World Junior Championships. She also played a big role in India's maiden gold-medal triumph at the Asian Team Championships.
Under the guidance of Park Tae-Sang, the former coach of two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, Tanvi has cemented herself as one of the brightest young talents on BWF arena. Sunday's final presented the biggest test of her career to date, and the teenage shuttler rose to the occasion by dropping a title-winning performance.

Tanvi dropped a composed act in the summit clash, needing just 36 minutes to secure the title. The 17-year-old stamped her authority right from the start, unsettling Nguyen with her quick movement and well-timed attacking strokes. While a handful of unforced mistakes briefly allowed the Vietnamese shuttler to stay in the contention, Tanvi quickly reclaimed the control and finished the opening game 21-16.
The momentum briefly shifted at the start of the second game as Nguyen raced to a 3-0 lead with an attacking approach. Tanvi, however, reacted with a calm approach, slowing the tempo when required before unleashing decisive winners. Her all-round display slowly wore down her opponent, and the Indian teenager wrapped up the clash in the straight games to lift the biggest trophy of her career so far.
