Two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar has been allowed to give wrestling and fitness training to inmates at the Tihar jail complex. It is important to mention that Sushil is currently at the Tihar Jail in the Chhatrasal murder case.
Previously, due to the Covid-19 pandemic multiple restrictions were in force at the jail and that is why Sushil was not allowed to conduct such training sessions.
Sushil received permission
But now it is understood that, the jail authorities have given him the required permission to hold such sessions. It is learnt that 6 to 7 inmates are learning the techniques of wrestling and taking physical training lessons as well from Sushil.
According to the jail officials, a plan like this was already in place but due to the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic, the plan had to be rescheduled. If any prisoner expresses the desire to take training from Sushil, he can take it as it is believed that such training sessions will help them in being busy and eventually it will help them to avoid depression.
The Olympic medal-winning wrestler was arrested back in May 2021. Sushil and his associates allegedly assaulted 23-year-old wrestler Sagar Dhankar, his friend Sonu and three others at the stadium on the intervening night of May 4 and 5 over a property dispute.
Since June, 2021, Sushil has been serving time at Tihar Jail.
Sushil's records
Sushil had won bronze medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the 66 kg freestyle category. And four years later, in the London Olympics he improved his performance and clinched the silver medal. Before taking part in the London Olympics, Sushil had already become a world champion and a Commonwealth Games champion as well.
At the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games Sushil had won a gold medal in the 66 kg freestyle. At the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games he won another gold medal in the 74 kg freestyle category and there was no change in the colour of the medal for Sushil at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games as he won one more gold medal in 2018.
