Vinesh Phogat resigns from Indian Railways job ahead of joining political party

Indian star wrestler Vinesh Phogat who is joining Congress has resigned from her job in the Indian Railways. Indian wrestlers Vinesh and Bajrang Punia have announced that they will contest Assembly Elections for the Indian National Congress party. Punia confirmed to Aajtak that he and Vinesh will make the joint announcement at 2:30 PM on September 6.

 

The Haryana Assembly Elections will take place on October 5, 2024. Vinesh took her 'X' to inform about her resignation from the Railways job.

"At this juncture in my life, I have decided to separate myself from the railway service and have submitted my resignation to the competent authorities of Indian Railways," the post read. Expressing heartfelt gratitude, she added, "I will always be thankful to the Indian Railways family for giving me the opportunity to serve the nation."

Vinesh Phogat's Paris Olympics 2024 campaign 

 

Vinesh Phogat was the standout performer in Paris Olympics 2024, she created history by defeating Japanese wrestler Yui Susaki on her way to the gold medal round. However, she got disqualified after she failed during weight. She got out of the multinational event for being 100 grams overweight. She announced her retirement from wrestling following her heartbreaking disqualification from the Paris Games. 

 

 

Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat's Protest

 

Both Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia were involved in the wrestler's protest where Sakshi Malik was also there with them. They were protesting against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for allegedly misbehaving with female athletes. 
 

Earlier, both Vinesh and Bajrang met Congress MP Rahul Gandhi which sparked a lot of speculations about joining politics. This meeting coincided with the Congress' Central Election Committee (CEC) finalising its list of candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections.
