Yearender 2022: A brilliant CWG games, but a not-so-brilliant T20 World Cup; A complete recap of the year's every sporting event

2022 was a great year for the world of sports, especially for Indian sportspersons. In Badminton, the Indian shuttlers created history after winning the Thomas Cup for the first time in 73 years. And in the Javelin throw, Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal in the World Championships in the USA.

Here, we take a look at the many Indian players who got their names registered on the pages of history. We bring you some wonderful moments of all sports across the world that made this year more colourful.

Javelin Throw
Neeraj Chopra's name tops the list of Indian athletes in 2022. The Olympic champion created history after winning the silver medal in the World Championship after a throw of 88.13 metres.

Lawn Bowl
The Indian women's Lawn Bowls team created history at the Commonwealth Games 2022. They won the Gold in this event for the first time, making history by defeating South Africa 17-0.

Badminton
Thomas Cup
The Indian badminton contingent ended a long drought of 73 years to capture the Thomas Cup, which is considered to be the biggest competition in badminton. The Indian team won the final after beating Indonesia.

PV Sindhu: After 13 years of hard work, Indian badminton star PV Sindhu won the gold medal in the CWG for the first time. The Indian shuttler defeated Canada's Michelle Li in the final. Meanwhile, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty became the first Indian pair to win a medal at the World Championships.

Lakshya Sen: After winning the Super 500 title and two World Tour titles for the first time, Lakshya Sen won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. He also won the bronze medal in the World Championships.

Mirabai Chanu
After winning the gold in the Commonwealth Games, Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal in the World Weightlifting Championships as well!

Table Tennis
Sharath Kamal: 40-year-old Sharath returned from the Birmingham Games as the most successful Indian athlete with four medals. Apart from gold in mixed doubles, Sharath also won gold in singles — his first after 16 years. He won the first gold in singles at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games. Sharath has won a total of 13 medals in the Commonwealth Games.

Wrestling 
Indian youth wrestler Aman Sehrawat created history by winning the gold medal at the U-23 World Wrestling Championships in Spain. The 18-year-old Aman achieved the incredible feat with a 12-4 victory over Turkish wrestler Ahmet Duman in the final of the men's freestyle 57kg event. Even Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Ravi Dahiya won silver medals earlier in this tournament.

Boxing
Nikhat Zareen's name is currently the biggest in Indian boxing after Mary Kom. This 26-year-old boxer first won the gold in the Commonwealth Games and then won the gold in the World Championship as well.

Hockey
The Indian women's team ended a drought of 16 years and won the bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games. The Indian women's team defeated New Zealand 2-1 in the penalty shootout.

Formula 1
In 2022, the 73rd Formula One World Championship was held with new rule changes. The Drivers championship was won by Max Verstappen, his second in as many seasons, and he helped Red Bull Racing win their fifth World Constructor's Championship. It was also the final season for four-time champion Sebastian Vettel, while Mercedes had a bad season.

T20 World Cup
In the final of the T20 World Cup 2022, England won the title after defeating Pakistan by five wickets. Ben Stokes and Sam Curran played an important role in England's victory. Batting first, Pakistan scored 137 runs for eight wickets, which England easily chased. This was the second time that England had won such a title. Earlier, the team had also become the champion in 2010.

Pro Kabaddi
In Pro Kabaddi, the Jaipur Pink Panthers defeated the Puneri Paltans by 33-29. This is the Pro Kabaddi League Championship of the team. Abhishek Bachchan's team has now become the second team in the history of the tournament to have won the tournament twice after the Patna Pirates.

FIFA World Cup 2022
Come November, excitement for the biggest football event of the year began. Although hosted in controversial Qatar, once the tournament kicked off, football reigned supreme as the press deemed the 2022 FIFA World Cup one of the best ever held. 
From shock results to emotional heartbreaks, and last-minute gasps, this edition had everything. Argentina fell to Saudi Arabia in their opening match, and it was all everyone could talk about. But the team held their ground and went from surprise losers to deserved champions in a span of 20 days. It was a fitting swansong for Lionel Messi, who might have finally settled the ‘Greatest Of All Time’ debate concerning Ronaldo and himself.

Asia Cup
Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup 2022 title by defeating Pakistan by 23 runs in a thrilling final match. This was Sri Lanka's sixth Asia Cup title. Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 170 runs. But Pakistan's team was all out for 147 runs.
