Novak Djokovic has pulled out of the Monte Carlo Masters, according to the tournament organisers. This will mark the first time since 2011 that the Serbian will not be taking part in the ATP event. The 24-time Grand Slam champion has not played tennis since his Indian Wells Masters loss against Jack Draper in the Round of 16.
Why is Novak Djokovic not playing in Monte Carlo 2026?
Monte Carlo took over their social media account to announce the absence in a short sentence. It read:
"Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the tournament. We send him our best wishes and hope to see him back on court very soon."
The 38-year-old has been dealing with a shoulder injury over the last few months. Djokovic, who lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open 2026 final, was also forced to withdraw from the ongoing Miami Open event due to the same issue.
It was mentioned that Djokovic experienced pain and was left "out of gas" at one point during his loss to Draper. Following this, the tennis superstar pulled out of the American tournament to prioritise his health.
Meanwhile, it is set to begin on April 4 and will run until 12 in France. In the ongoing Miami Open tournament, the semifinals are set, where Jannik Sinner will face Alexander Zverev, while Jiri Lehecka will play Arthur Fils. In the women’s, Aryna Sabalenka will attempt to win the Sunshiune Double as she faces Coco Gauff in the final.
