FIR lodged against Indian tennis player for morphing girl's photo

Kamath downloaded the photo of a girl from Instagram and morphed it.

Indian tennis player Madhwin Kamath has been accused of defaming a 22-year-old girl by pasting her posters across the city that showed her an escort girl. Ahmedabad Cyber Crime has lodged a case against Madhwin Kamath in Ahmedabad. Kamath downloaded a photo of a girl from Instagram and morphed it. He also tried to defame her by writing escort service and making her mobile number public. The girl found the poster on Instagram after receiving calls from an unknown number soliciting escort services.

A 22-year-old girl from the Satellite area, Ahmedabad, has been receiving calls from an unknown number for the past 20 days. The caller was harassing her by labelling her as an escort girl. When she learnt that her photo was downloaded from Instagram and used on a poster. She immediately reported the matter to the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Cell. On the poster, the mobile number was mentioned and ‘Call girl for entertainment’ was written below the girl’s photo. After filing the case, police examined the CCTV footage which revealed that a man riding a scooter and pasting the posters in various locations. The girl was stunned when she came to know that Kamath was pasting flyers. The tennis player was an acquaintance of the girl.

Currently, Madhwin Kamath is in France to compete in a tennis tournament. The police will take action against him when he returns from France. 

 

“As Kamath is not in India and has gone to France to play a tennis tournament, we have issued a Look Out Notice (LOC) across airports in the country to detain him. At present, we are in the process of gathering technical and material evidence against the accused,” a source from the cyber cell said.

 

“It is entirely a private matter of the player concerned. I sympathize with the victim. Let the law take its course in this case," a source from the Gujarat Tennis Association said. 

 

Now, the concerns exist that he may evade arrest after returning to India. The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Officer asserted CCTV footage is the biggest evidence against him.
