Aryna Sabalenka was recently stunned by Elena Rybakina to secure her maiden WTA Finals title in Riyadh. The World No. 1 failed to clinch her first title at the event; however, this didn't stop her from overtaking tennis legend Williams’ record of winning the most prize money. The top-seeded player missed on a $5.235 million payday, but she didn't leave empty-handed. She walked in with a hefty sum after her victories over Jasmine Paolini, Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff, and Amanda Anisimova.

Sabalenka took home a whopping $15,008,519 in on-court earnings, following which, she has now become the player with the most earnings in a single year in the history of WTA. Williams, the US tennis icon, was the previous record holder with $12,385,572 in 2013 when the former player held a 78-4 record. That was the year she won the French Open, US Open, and WTA Finals.

Sabalenka, meanwhile, bagged $5 million after winning the US Open title this year before her stunning run in Riyadh. She was also the runner-up at the Australian Open and Roland Garros. The Belarusian was defeated by Rybakina with a score of 63, 76(0).
