The Australian Open 2026 is in full swing, and several high-profile tennis players will be hoping to extend their record at the first Grand Slam. Meanwhile, amid the run, multiple American tennis stars are going through Donald Trump-related questions, and Taylor Fritz was one of them.

Fritz was asked about President Trump after he claimed his second-round victory against Czechia's Vit Kopriva in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 7-6. During the traditional post-match press conference, one reporter asked him for comment on the geopolitical tensions surrounding the president and America’s stance on Greenland.

The reporter stated that he was asking the questions to all the American players and asked how Fritz had been feeling since “a lot happening back home in the US, and has been for the lot of the last year.”

Fritz looked visibly uncomfortable, as seen in the widely circulated videos on social media by tennis fans. The 28-year-old wiped both of his eyes with his palms and replied:

"I mean, I'm not sure what we're specifically talking about. But there is a lot going on in the US.”

The World No. 9 ATP star continued:

"And I don't know, I feel like whatever I say here is going to get put in a headline, and it's gonna get taken out of context.”

Fritz stated that he would rather ignore any distraction for himself, which might be caused by anything he says, which might be used out of context. He is not the only American tennis player to be asked about Trump’s presidency and his political approach, as mentioned before. Coco Gauff was also asked to provide her opinion on America and the 47th president of the country. Amanda Anisimova was another WTA star who faced a similar situation.

Meanwhile, Fritz is all set to face Stan Wawrinka in the Round of 32 of the ongoing first Grand Slam of the year. Fritz is yet to win a major; however, he reached the final of the US Open at home ground in 2024. Henalso advanced to the semifinals of Wimbledon last year. The highest he has reached in Melbourne Park was the quarterfinals, which came in 2024.
