NFL fines a key Chiefs player for unnecessary roughness following an on-field altercation.

Kansas City Chiefs’ turbulent start to the new NFL season went from bad to worse after their narrow 31-28 defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5. What was already a disappointing night for Andy Reid’s squad turned even darker when one of their offensive stars found himself at the center of controversy — and subsequent disciplinary action.

Kansas City Chiefs lose a tight contest after late collapse

The Chiefs entered Monday’s clash with the Jaguars eager to regain momentum, but things quickly unraveled despite a promising start. Kansas City led by two touchdowns early in the game, only to watch that advantage slip away by the end of the third quarter. Jacksonville surged back to take a 21-14 lead heading into the final period, setting up a tense fourth quarter that ultimately saw the home side crumble.

The two teams exchanged touchdowns and field goals in the closing minutes, but Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence delivered the decisive blow with a remarkable late drive. Engineering a seven-play, 60-yard march downfield, Lawrence capped the comeback with a 1-yard touchdown run — a play that almost didn’t happen. The quarterback stumbled twice after being stepped on by his own lineman, but managed to recover, scramble left, and dive into the end zone to seal the win.

Chris Jones faces online backlash

Following the game, Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones came under heavy fire on social media. The veteran lineman was seen standing idly on the play where Lawrence scored, appearing to assume the quarterback was already down. The moment quickly went viral, with fans and analysts alike questioning the team’s discipline and focus late in critical games.

Hollywood Brown fined for unnecessary roughness

Adding insult to injury, the NFL handed down disciplinary action just days later. Wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown was fined $12,172 for unnecessary roughness following an altercation with Jaguars cornerback Jourdan Lewis.

The incident occurred when the two players became entangled during a play and continued to shove each other after the whistle. Brown appeared to react to a possible late push from Lewis and retaliated by slapping the defender’s facemask — a move that earned him an immediate 15-yard penalty and now, a substantial fine.

Despite the on-field frustrations, Hollywood Brown still managed to contribute offensively, finishing with four receptions for 48 yards in the loss. However, the fine and penalty added to the Kansas City Chiefs’ mounting woes as they prepare to face the Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium.
