Philadelphia Eagles restructure star guard’s contract, altering the long-term terms of his deal.

Decision reportedly influenced by performance considerations and injury history.

Philadelphia Eagles have made a firm offseason move involving one of their most prominent offensive linemen. The franchise has restructured the contract of three-time Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson, a decision that slightly reduces his salary while also removing the final year of his previous deal.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the revised contract is worth “around” $36 million over the next two seasons. The deal includes $15.7 million for the upcoming year and trims roughly $3 million from what Dickerson was originally scheduled to earn during that span.

The restructuring also eliminates the 2028 season from the agreement, meaning the star guard is now under contract only through 2027 and could enter free agency earlier than initially expected.

Contract shift changes league standing

Dickerson signed a four-year, $84 million extension two years ago, which at the time made him the highest-paid guard in the NFL. With the revised terms, his new average annual salary drops to approximately $18 million.

As a result, Philadelphia Eagles standout moves from the third-highest-paid guard in the league to ninth in terms of yearly earnings. However, the structure of the new deal allows Landon Dickerson to recover some of the reduced money through performance-based incentives scheduled for 2027.

The decision appears to be a calculated balance between rewarding a proven player and maintaining financial flexibility for the team.

Injury history influences Philadelphia Eagles’ decision

A major factor behind the contract revision is Dickerson’s long history of injuries. While he has missed only six games during his NFL career, the offensive lineman has undergone numerous surgeries dating back to his college football days.

Dickerson has reportedly dealt with multiple in-season injuries and offseason procedures in recent years. The situation was serious enough that he considered retirement earlier this offseason, and it also impacted his performance last season when he missed the Pro Bowl for the first time since his rookie campaign in 2021.

Among his notable injuries are a torn right ACL during his time at Florida State in 2016, a torn left ACL while playing for Alabama in 2020, and recent knee issues that required surgery following the 2025 NFC Championship Game.

Despite the concerns, Landon Dickerson’s impact on the franchise remains undeniable. He earned Pro Bowl selections in 2022, 2023, and 2024, becoming the first offensive lineman in Philadelphia Eagles history to reach three Pro Bowls within his first four seasons.
