Seahawks quarterback delivered a composed performance to help secure the franchise’s second title.

Seattle Seahawks capped off a memorable postseason run by defeating the New England Patriots 29–13 in Super Bowl LX on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium.

While the scoreline reflected control and composure on the biggest stage, the road to the franchise’s second Super Bowl title was far from smooth—especially for quarterback Sam Darnold, who quietly battled through a painful injury during the playoff stretch.

Concerns surrounding Darnold’s health first emerged even before Seattle’s postseason campaign began. The quarterback appeared on the injury report ahead of the divisional-round clash against the San Francisco 49ers, listed with an oblique strain that raised questions about his availability and effectiveness.

Despite the issue, Darnold took the field and remained under center throughout the playoffs, shouldering responsibility as Seattle pushed toward a championship.

“It wasn’t fun by any means”

A day after lifting the Lombardi Trophy, Darnold opened up about the physical toll the injury took on him during Seattle Seahawks’ title run. Speaking to reporters on February 9, the quarterback offered a candid assessment of what he endured behind the scenes.

“It wasn’t fun by any means,” Sam Darnold said. “It was pretty banged up. Still, I don’t really want to go into too much detail because I don’t understand why it would. But yeah, it hurt really bad. I think you guys can imagine a left oblique strain for a quarterback. It’s not very fun.”

The revelation highlighted just how challenging the past few weeks had been for Seahawks signal-caller, particularly given the physical demands placed on quarterbacks during high-stakes playoff games.

Steady performance on football’s biggest stage

Despite the injury, Darnold delivered a composed performance in Super Bowl LX. He completed 19 of 38 passes for 202 yards, threw one touchdown, and avoided turnovers against a disciplined Patriots defense. His defining moment came in the fourth quarter, when he connected with A.J. Barner on a 16-yard touchdown pass that helped seal the victory and put the game beyond New England’s reach.

Seattle Seahawks’ triumph was built on resilience, depth, and timely execution, but Sam Darnold’s perseverance added another layer to the story of their championship run.
