Kansas City Chiefs have enjoyed a relatively healthy start to the season, but just as they gear up for their upcoming clash against the Jacksonville Jaguars, head coach Andy Reid has confirmed a concerning development. What was shaping up to be a clean injury report for the reigning AFC champions took a turn during Saturday’s practice session.
Omarr Norman-Lott suffers shoulder injury
During his Saturday afternoon media availability, Reid revealed that rookie defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott is dealing with a shoulder issue sustained during Friday’s practice. The setback kept him out of the team’s final workout before heading to Jacksonville.
“The only one that didn’t practice today was Lott, Omarr,” Andy Reid told reporters. “He nicked up his shoulder yesterday. We’ll just see how he does here in the next couple of days.”
When asked if the injury could sideline Norman-Lott for Monday night’s matchup, Reid struck a measured tone but offered a bit of optimism. “Listen, I think he should be OK,” he added. “We’ll see.”
The Chiefs will continue to monitor the young lineman’s progress over the weekend, with his game-time status still up in the air.
Rookie season off to a slow, bumpy start
The injury adds another hurdle to what’s been a stop-start rookie campaign for Omarr Norman-Lott. Selected 63rd overall in the NFL Draft, the former Tennessee standout already battled an ankle injury during the preseason, which limited his availability and early rhythm.
Despite the setbacks, Norman-Lott made a notable impact in his NFL debut in Week 2, recording a sack that hinted at his potential as a disruptive interior force. Over the next three weeks (Weeks 2–4), he logged 55 defensive snaps, tallying five tackles—including four solo and one for loss—along with his lone quarterback takedown.
According to Pro Football Focus, Norman-Lott currently holds a 50.2 overall grade, ranking 132nd among 179 interior defensive linemen. However, his 62.3 pass rush grade places him in the top half of the league’s young defensive prospects at 71st overall.
Chiefs look to maintain defensive momentum
With Omarr Norman-Lott’s status uncertain, the Chiefs’ defensive front may need to rely more heavily on their veteran rotation against a Jaguars offense led by quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Kansas City’s defensive line has been a major factor in their early success this season, and Andy Reid will be hoping the rookie’s absence doesn’t disrupt that rhythm.
Still, the head coach’s comments suggest cautious optimism, hinting that Norman-Lott’s injury may not be serious enough to keep him sidelined for long. The coming days will determine whether the promising tackle makes the trip to Jacksonville or remains in recovery mode.
