Current and former Bills players slammed Buffalo’s ownership after Sean McDermott was dismissed despite a strong nine-year tenure.

Super Bowl-winning coach John Gruden said the firing made him “sick,” insisting the Bills cannot do better than McDermott.

The Buffalo Bills have sacked coach Sean McDermott following the team's 33-30 overtime defeat in the divisional round against the Denver Broncos on Saturday.

McDermott served as the Bills' coach for nine seasons, guiding the team to the playoffs in eight of those seasons. He produced an amazing 98-50 (.662) record, registering just one losing season.

McDermot's firing irritated some of the current and former Bills player, who accused the ownership of their shortcomings. Former Bills defensive tackle Eli Ankou wrote in his Instagram story:

"Scapegoat ahh firing. Like bro what lmao. This is a finger-pointing competition."

 

 

Former Bills cornerback Levi Wallace also expressed his opinion on Instagram writing:

"Man my dog turned the whole organization around. One of the best I've been around."

 

 

Bills rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston, who got to feature under McDermott in 2025, wrote in his Instagram story:

"Forever grateful blue 💙."

 

 

Bills safety Hamlin expressed his feelings on X:

"💔 💔 💔."

 

 

Bills defensive tackle Jordan Phillips wrote on his Instagram story:

"This shi* here is so stupid honestly sickening. The best coach I've been around."

 

 

John Gruden feels sick with Bills firing Sean McDermott

Former Super Bowl-winning coach John Gruden voiced his frustration on Sean McDermott's firing on Monday. Gruden said he was feeling sick with the decision and feels they can not do better than McDermott.

"That makes me sick, that makes me absolutely sick," Gruden said. "I mean, I have no idea what the hell’s going on in this league. They fired 10 head coaches this year. Good luck to Buffalo and now I’m really glad they lost the game, personally. I don’t think you can do much better than Sean McDermott…”

 

 

The Bills have been linked with a few names to replace McDermott as their coach. Former New York Giants coach Brian Daboll is among the possible candidates for the job.
