The Baltimore Ravens sacked John Harbaugh last week after a disappointing 26-24 loss against the divisional rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, which finished their season.
John Harbaugh's crazy firing
Harbaugh's firing came in the wake of Ravens rookie kicker Tyler Loop's missed 44-yard field goal attempt, which could have secured a win for Baltimore and secured an AFC North title.
When Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti was questioned about his decision to fire Harbaugh and if he would have kept him and Loop made the kick, Bisciotti gave a three-word reply:
"For a week."
While the Ravens owner had a blunt reply on the possibility of retaining Harbaugh, Bisciotti said that he made the decision to fire the coach after knowing he would not "regret" it.
"I got to the point that I didn't believe that I would feel regret after I made that decision," Bisciotti said. "And that's what instinct is when you finally get to the point that you're pretty damn sure that you are not going to regret the decision a day or a week later, then that's the time to make the decision."
Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti opens up on John Harbaugh's craziest firing
While John Harbaugh guided the team to a 180-113 record during the regular season during his stint, along with a Super Bowl XLVII victory in 2012, he was fired on a phone call by the Ravens owner.
Steve Bisciotti expressed regret regarding his call to fire Harbaugh on the phone rather than informing him in person.
"It was the craziest firing in the world," Bisciotti said, apologizing for relieving Harbaugh via a phone. "I was the one choked up and he was the one consoling me."
"It was a wonderful, wonderful marriage. We accomplished great things. The next coach we get, I want him to be a Super Bowl-winning coach, too."
Harbaugh was the longest-tenured coach in the league at the time of his firing and Baltimore's next coach will have his work cut out for him.
