Aaron Rodgers still hasn't made a public pronouncement about the 2025 NFL season, but just recently, it was said the aging quarterback has made up his mind to continue with his playing career. According to Sports Illustrated, he told Aaron Glenn, the New York Jets' new head coach, and Aaron Mougey, the team general manager, that he intends to return for the 2025 season.

Rodgers Unfinished Business

Rodgers, who will turn 42 in December, went on to tell Jets' leadership that he has unfinished business in the NFL after an entirely lackluster season with the Jets in 2024. While this came on their heels of a very disappointing 5-12 year with the Jets that was truly below expectations, there was another level of motivation for him simply to demonstrate to all that he could still play at an elite level with the Jets reportedly moving on from him.

Time's Challenge

Rodgers finds himself in direct confrontation with Time's advance as he heads into that 2025 season at age 42. Tom Brady was the only quarterback in NFL history who had sustained success at such an advanced age, winning his last Super Bowl with the New England Patriots at 41 and another with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 43.

Brady's late-career success relied on a strong supporting structure of teams. This environment the Jets haven't given Rodgers so far to facilitate his pursuit of another trophy.

Why the Jets Were Not the Right Team

Rodgers first thought that the Jets were the team that could help him pursue another championship. While the struggles of the Jets in 2024-primarily their defense and offensive line-made it clear that they were simply not built for contention, the inability of the Jets to protect Kendrick Rogers or provide him with consistent support led to their decision to let him go.

What's Next for Rodgers?

The NFL landscape will observe carefully as Rodgers gets into the next chapter of his career, keeping an eye on where he ends up. Because of his age and the attention he draws in the media, his options may be limited; nevertheless, his talent and determination have kept him on the list of attractive options for a team in need of an experienced leader.

Rodgers' stature as one of the greatest to ever do it is already held firm. However, the dimension of wanting to have a positive end on his career makes an interesting touch to his narrative. Will he be able to circumvent Father Time, with success in 2025? Well, that remains to be seen, but one thing we've all agreed on: Aaron Rodgers isn't prepared to walk away just yet.
