Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold had a silent game in their Super Bowl LX clash against the Patriots. Despite this, they managed to take home the win and claim the Lombardi trophy with a 29-13 final score.
Puka Nacua takes dig at Sam Darnold
However, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua took a shot at Darnold despite their Super Bowl win. On X, the two-time Pro Bowler dropped a cryptic tweet mentioning the quarterback's name with a laughing emoji. This prompted questions about whether he was making fun of Darnold's performance.
In another tweet that Nacua deleted, he also raised questions on Patriots quarterback Drake Maye's performance. The second-year starter struggled to get his offense into momentum against Mike Macdonald's defense.
"Did they score a TD??" Nacua wrote.
The Seahawks found themselves with a 9-0 lead at halftime due to three field goals by place kicker Jason Myers. In the second half, they extended this lead to 12-0 before Drake Maye finally put the Patriots on the scoreboard with a 35-yard TD pass to wide receiver Mack Hollins.
With 4:21 left in the fourth quarter, linebacker Unchenna Nwosu intercepted the Patriots quarterback to score a defensive touchdown. Maye scored another passing touchdown, but it was not good enough to help his team make a comeback.
Sam Darnold wrapped up the night completing 19 of 38 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown. On the contrary, Drake Maye managed to complete 27 of 43 passes for 295 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Barack Obama congratulates the Seahawks on Super Bowl win
The Seattle Seahawks finished their championship drought on Sunday after winning the Super Bowl LX. Their last win came during the 2013 season.
After the game, former POTUS Barack Obama shared a tweet congratulating Sam Darnold and the Seahawks.
"Congratulations to the Super Bowl champion @Seahawks! This defense was special. MVP Kenneth Walker was dominant. And Sam Darnold gave us one of the best comeback stories in a long time. Enjoy the celebration."
Darnold started his NFL journey with the New York Jets in 2018. Last season, he served as the QB 1 of the Minnesota Vikings in place of the injured J.J. McCarthy. He led the team to reach the playoffs, where they faced against the Rams in a wild-card game.
The Vikings chose not to retain the quarterback. In March, he agreed to a three-year deal worth $100.5 million with the Seahawks. During the regular season, Darnold registered 4,048 yards and 25 TDs passing.
