Toronto Blue Jays have wasted little time making noise this offseason. After aggressively attacking the free-agent market with additions like Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, and reliever Tyler Rogers, Toronto has positioned itself as a team serious about contending. However, one unresolved issue could ultimately define their World Series fate.
A Lingering Infield Question
The potential departure of Bo Bichette looms large over Toronto’s offseason plans. Losing their star shortstop would leave a glaring hole in the middle of the infield—one that free agency has yet to adequately address. That uncertainty has shifted attention toward the trade market, where one name continues to stand out.
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte has emerged as a potential solution, and according to Clutch Points’ Garrett Kerman, the move could be transformative.
Why Ketel Marte changes everything
“For the Blue Jays, acquiring Marte transforms a good team into a legitimate World Series threat,” Kerman wrote. “It's the kind of statement move that separates contenders from pretenders, and it's exactly what Toronto needs to do after the Winter Meetings concluded without addressing the elephant in the room.”
Marte’s offensive consistency would immediately upgrade a lineup spot that struggled in 2025. While Andres Gimenez remains an elite defender, his .598 OPS made him Toronto Blue Jays’ weakest hitter among everyday starters last season. Marte’s presence would add balance and depth to an already formidable batting order.
The cost—and why it makes Sense
Kerman’s proposed trade would send pitchers Ricky Tiedemann (No. 4 prospect) and Jake Bloss (No. 8) to Arizona. Crucially, the deal preserves Toronto’s most prized young assets.
“The beauty of this deal is that it doesn't gut Toronto's established big-league roster or completely strip the organization of its best young arms,” Kerman added. “The Blue Jays would retain prospects like Arjun Nimmala and Trey Yesavage.”
With Vladimir Guerrero Jr. anchoring the lineup and the possibility of Kyle Tucker joining the mix, adding Marte could elevate Toronto Blue Jays from playoff hopeful to legitimate championship threat.
